In 1665, he obtains a commission which gives him the command of the
1st Company of the Kings Great Musketeers. Then, in 1667, he receives the
most gratifying post of the Kingdom, according to Colbert, i.e. the one of Lieutenant
Captain of this company with authority on all the Kings Musketeers.
He was then entrusted with the direction of Governor of
Lille, thus replacing the Marshal Humière.

During the assault of the fortress of Lille, he served as
Brigadier of Cavalry under the orders, notably, of the Light-horse Company of the Queen
and King and the Enghien and Monaco regiments.
